Rajshahi District Council Chairman Mohammad Al Sarkar has been temporarily expelled from the Awami League. At an equivalent time, Dablu Sarkar, general secretary of Mahanagar Awami League, said that he was sent to the party center with a recommendation for permanent expulsion from the party.
He said a gathering of the chief committee of the metropolitan Awami League was held at the party office on Monday (January 25) evening. The meeting was presided over by Nagar Awami League President and City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton. The meeting unanimously decided to expel Zila Parishad chairman Mohammad Ali Sarkar from the party. He was then suspended from the Awami League. He was a member of the Awami League in Ward 14 (East) of the town.
Dablu Sarkar, general secretary of Nagar Awami League, said the district council chairman has been suspended from the party for obstructing the development of a mural of Father of the state Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and therefore the central Shaheed Minar in Rajshahi and violating party discipline. He also said that the advice for his expulsion was sent to the central executive committee of the Awami League.
Meanwhile, a protest meeting was held at the designated place to prevent the development of the Rajshahi Central Shaheed Minar. The meeting was held at the Sarit Dutta Gupta meeting room of Nagar Bhaban on Monday evening. The meeting was presided over by Metropolitan Awami League President and City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton.
